Janusz
Korczak was the pseudonym of the Polish-Jewish educator Henryk Goldszmit. He
began working with orphans in 1908 and implemented his progressive theories
on children's education and upbringing in the orphanage he ran in Warsaw. On
August 5, 1942, he accompanied his orphans from the Warsaw Ghetto to
Treblinka concentration camp, where he died with them. This sculpture, by
Boris Saktsier, was erected at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem
