Ojemba Productions was created by
Jonathan Salt in 2002 and was born at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Ojemba Productions exists to explore and examine issues that affect the lives
of the ordinary citizens of our world, providing entertainment, involved in
the educational process and at the same time, giving un-known and
up-and-coming talent a break into theatre. The name ‘Ojemba’ comes from the Igbo
language of modern Nigeria, and means great
traveler. It is one of Ojemba
Productions’ aims to build bridges between different groups within society
and around the world. The first production we undertook was
Clifford Oliver’s ‘My England’, looking at racism, and
set against the background of international football. This very funny black comedy was initially
toured in schools in Cambridgeshire, before being transferred to the
Edinburgh Fringe, in partnership with FIFA. In 2003 Ojemba Productions took ‘One
For the Road’ by Harold Pinter, to Edinburgh. The play looks at torture and the
relationship between torturer and the tortured, presented in the year of
Guantanamo Bay and the year in which the secret torture chambers and mass
graves of Iraq began to surrender up their grotesque secrets. In 2005, after a much deserved break for
Jonathan, Ojemba is back with a bang with its production of ‘Korczak’. An
amazing piece which takes Ojemba Productions to new heights. A must see at
the Edinburgh Fringe in 2005. |
